What Oak Ridge roofs actually deal with.
The local issue is roof geometry from the city's history. Low-slope and flat sections, additions that created odd transitions, and original ventilation that was never designed for modern insulation levels. On the low-slope roofs the enemy is standing water and clogged drains; on the pitched ones it's the usual East Tennessee heat in an attic that can't breathe.
Oak Ridge summers are long and humid, and that's the quiet killer of shingle roofs in East Tennessee. An attic without real airflow cooks the shingles from underneath and takes years off their life, so we check soffit and ridge ventilation on every estimate. Can you replace a flat or low-slope roof on an Oak Ridge home?
